Outpatient care in Minnesota
Minnesota
Blue River Behavioral Health offers rehab in Minnesota for adults 18 and older who are managing substance use, a mental health condition, or both. We are a new, standalone outpatient program with no corporate ownership. Your plan starts with your story, not a script. You meet with a therapist and a psychiatric provider early on, so one team looks at your whole picture together. From your first call, we walk you through what each level of care includes and how it fits your week.

The standards behind our program
Who We Are
Blue River Behavioral Health is a standalone program in Minnesota. No corporate chain owns us.
We treat each person who calls as an adult making their own health decisions. You keep an active role in your plan, and we explain each step before it happens.
Levels of Care
We offer outpatient rehab in Minnesota that adults can count on, across four levels of care: partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, outpatient, and virtual programming. You can move between levels as your needs change, without changing your team.
A partial hospitalization program gives you the most structure outside a hospital stay. Group therapy runs roughly five to six hours a day, Monday through Friday, with individual sessions, skills-based therapy, and built-in psychiatric and medical access. PHP fits people who need daily support but not round-the-clock supervision.

An intensive outpatient program meets three to five days a week. On the days you attend, group therapy runs about three hours, alongside individual therapy and relapse prevention work. IOP works well for people stepping down from PHP or balancing work and school.
Learn More
Outpatient care means weekly or biweekly individual and group sessions, with flexible scheduling built around your week. OP suits people who need ongoing support but can manage most of their week on their own.
Learn More
Virtual programming delivers the same intensive outpatient or outpatient experience online. It fits people who want privacy, live far from the facility, or cannot easily get to in-person sessions.
Learn MoreInsurance and Coverage
We accept all insurance plans, including out-of-network benefits, so coverage questions should not keep you from calling.
We do not quote costs upfront, since every plan is different, but our team walks you through what your specific plan covers before you start.
Checking your benefits does not commit you to anything.
What We Treat
We treat adults for substance use, mental health conditions, and both at once. We built our addiction and mental health treatment program in Minnesota around one coordinated plan, so you don't have to choose which concern comes first. The same team handles both from day one.
On the substance use side, we treat alcohol, opioids such as fentanyl and heroin, and stimulants like cocaine and methamphetamine. We also treat benzodiazepines, cannabis, prescription drug misuse, and using several substances together.
Learn More
On the mental health side, we treat depression, anxiety, PTSD and trauma, bipolar disorder, OCD, borderline personality disorder, and ADHD.
Learn More
Dual diagnosis is also called co-occurring conditions. It means we address a substance use condition and a mental health condition together, at the same time.
Learn MoreTherapies and Services
Every plan draws from the therapies and services below. After your assessment, your therapist and psychiatric provider choose the mix with you.
A structured talk therapy that connects thoughts, feelings, and actions. You practice new ways to respond when stress or cravings hit.
Learn MorePractical skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, and handling relationships.
Learn MorePrivate sessions with your therapist to work through your history, your plan, and your goals.
Learn MoreSessions with other adults in your program, where you practice skills and hear how others handle similar hurdles.
Learn MoreWhy Blue River
You explain your history once, and one team uses it to build your plan.
Your plan follows your own history and goals from the first conversation.
Moving to a different level changes your schedule and keeps your providers.
Work, school, and parenting shape your session times, and virtual options remove the commute.
Some of the people you meet understand recovery from the inside.
You hear what your plan covers before you commit to anything.
Our Approach
No two people get the same plan at Blue River. We ask about your work schedule, your home life, and what has or has not helped before. Your plan can shift later if your needs change. From there, we build your plan around your history, your goals, and the level of rehab in Minnesota that matches where you are right now.
Every client also meets with a psychiatric provider for a medication evaluation. Medication is never automatic here, and decisions about it follow that evaluation.
Our Facility
Blue River is an outpatient program, so you attend sessions here and go home the same day. The facility has no beds and no on-site housing. If you need detox or residential care first, we help coordinate a referral to a partner program. You can continue with us at the level that fits afterward.

FAQ
These are questions people ask us most before their first call. If yours is not here, our admissions team can answer it directly.
(612) 614-0964Yes. Trauma, caregiving responsibilities, and safety concerns that women face more often shape your plan from your first assessment. Your therapist works those factors into your care based on what you actually need.
Yes. You can move between virtual and in-person sessions as your needs change, without switching therapists or restarting your plan. Many people begin virtually for privacy or distance, then move to in-person sessions once that fits better.
No. Your needs assessment determines which level fits you now, whether that is PHP, IOP, OP, or virtual care. Some clients start at a higher level and step down, while others begin in our outpatient rehab in Minnesota program at IOP or OP from their first week.
Yes. We verify coverage under a plan held by a parent, spouse, or partner, as long as you can share the policy details with our team. The plan does not have to be in your own name for us to check it.
Yes. Federal privacy laws protect your treatment records, and we do not share details about your care without your written consent, except when the law requires it. Substance use and mental health care are both covered equally.
No. Your biopsychosocial assessment and psychiatric evaluation happen once you start the admission process, right after your first call. Our addiction and mental health treatment Minnesota program evaluates both conditions during that process.
